A dissertation on glass

Billy:  I recently learned the differences between Sigla and Sekurit glass, so I've been looking at my stash as I move it from the shoppe to my house.  What about Durvit or Delog?  Both have the VW logo on them.   How do these manufacturers fit in the picture?

Crusty: I don't know how they fit in date wise, but I know that Crusty Bus has DELOG glass, and so does my single cab.  I'm not sure if Crusty's glass is original to the bus, but I know the ones in the single cab are the ones that were in it at 32,000 miles when I bought it.  As for Durvit, I've never heard of it.

Woody:  Volkswagen saved the Durvit brand of glass for their exceptional buses only !!  It just so happens my 64 Kombi is one of those exceptions !
No really: -Sekurit brand is by far the main supplier of glass to Vw.  It was used thru all the years (i.e. big logo early to mid fifties, small logo mid fifties on)
-Sigla was used primarily in the late fifties and early 60's and was laminated, boo hiss. (ie. the glass used in the slider windows without the holes drilled in the glass for the latch.)
-Delog and Durvit were used when Sekurit couldn't keep up with insatiable worldwide appetite for VWs.
So I'm guessing the best sale years from the late fifties thru the sixties, VW used them here and there.

Matt: All this talk about glass is getting me kind of excited.  Just the thought of a new black bra on Winnefred (with cut outs in the you know whats) and that nice fresh rack is something I'm am looking foward to seeing.
