Compression Issues

Ron Nelson: I just can't believe my luck. With only less than 48 hours till we leave for BNNTA, I loose compression on the left side of my engine. I can unplug the 3rd and 4th cylinder and the engine rpm doesn't change. I first noticed it a day ago when I started to load the truck and thought I just needed to tune it up. I have single port heads and set the valves for 4thousandths.  That's the best guess I could come up with from the book I had. It said if you have the square base stud rocker mounts and the sticker on the fan shroud or if it's a factory rebuilt which mine is, but i don't have any dumn sticker. Can you imagine what it would be like if it had broke down out in the middle of nowhere! I'm not going to let it get me down though. Tommorrow after work I plan on taking that 40 horse engine I was going to sell and trying to use it. How much luck do you think I'll need to get an engine that hasn't been started since 1976 to run good enough to get to Missouri and back?
P.S. If you don't see me then I'm probably dead. it's going to suck changing that engine out in this heat.

Rob Winterkorn (Master of Modification): If its not too late try to re torque the heads where you can.  It will only be the 4 behind the rockers but sometimes that's all you need.  Also set your valves at 006. a slight drag on intakes and a loose drag on exhausts.  This may be all you need.
