Professional Restoration
Hi DBGer's,
I just wanted to chime in with the amount of work I got from Lenny for the money spent on
my 61 dd panel.
Just stating the facts !! :-)
Virtually NO fillers are being used !
-Sand bus to bare metal
-Remove all doors and glass and stripe bus to a shell
-Weld in a new used front nose (you can't tell the work was done, front clip incl. in
cost))
-Repair 4 cargo doors (I thought they were shot)
-Weld up 3 large holes cut into bus
-Weld 6 holes cut into dash
-Remove belly pans and sand and prime and paint under them and reweld them in.
-Remove and rebuild front beam
-Remove and rebuild trans to a 3.88 r.&p.and switch to a big nut trans
-Rebuild reduction boxes
-Sand and prime and paint entire underside
-Repair many dents prime and paint bus in 2 tone paint scheme (incl. color sanding until
it's glass)
-Sand and prime interior( Including pounding hundreds of dents out of the bulkhead)
-Powder coat 3 bumpers
-Powder coat 5 wheels
-Pull new wiring harness (incl. harness)
-Powder coat engine tin
-Install later front spindles and front brakes
-Install rebuilt front beam
-All new brake lines
-Install rebuilt trans incl. shiter couplers and "birdies"
-Install motor
-All new rubber installed (I bought the rubber, $600)
-Rechrome all the handles and install
-Rekey all locks to one key
-New hardware used( for the most part)
-Rebuild speedo
-Restore steering wheel etc.etc..ect..... check it out at http://www.classicvws.com/woody.htm
Total cost : 10 K
I would like to see you get this amount of work and QUALITY done for less !
My cheapest quote around here to have the bus painted and a new nose welded on was 6.5K
(just for paint and welding)
Which DIDN'T include disassembly or reassembly and all the extras, like the underside the
trans, the front beam etc.etc... !!
Meine zwei pfennige,
woody
