Storing your motor for an extended period of time

Billy: Hey folks. I have a good motor that I plan on storing for a long time (years), and I am wondering if there is anything special I should do before I pack it away. All ideas are appreciated. Thanks. Billy

Isaiah:  Simple. Buy a motorless bus. Or...if you're not up for that. Stella could store it for you.  That goes for anyone on the list...if you have an extra motor...Stella may be interested in it come summer!
Really though, I've heard to fill em up all the way or more than usual with oil.   This way no air/humidity gets to the innards of the motor.
Plug any intake holes and exhaust holes...rodents may like those. Give it a couple of turns every month or so to make sure everything is free.
Should be about all?

Rick Zvala:  Don't forget to remove the rocker arms when you store the motor but before you fill the motor with oil.   Removing the rocker arms closes the valves and releases the tension on the spring.   Several of the aftermarket suppliers (pick one any one) also sell a preserve (kind of like Slick 50) that is recommended for use when you store a motor.  It mixes with oil when you store it.  Hope that this helps!

Chris Smith: Good point. The other solution is to fill the case with diesel fuel.  It will preserve the engine, clean the carbon out and show any minor leaks the case may have.  Then again, the Thing needs a motor.  You could always store it in there.
