16/10/03 The October edition of classic
rock has a seven page article on ufo. written by Dave Ling it throws up a couple
of items that I didn't Know. For instance did you know that Eddie Van Halen
was considering auditioning when Schenker first disappeared in 77.
1/3/03 I have had lots of emails
asking me about the former Waysted singer Fin. Well
I may have an update. According to Malcom Dome of totalrock.com Fin is living
in Milton Keynes and is still active in the music industry. British fans may
be interested to know that Fin provided the vocals on Handbags and your gladrags
from the comedy program The Office. It may also be the case that Fin has been
working with Del from Stray. If you have any further info please let me know.
30/1/03 Just to let you know that
my email address is going to change in the next week, so if you want to contribute
to the site then this is the address
29/1/03 welcome to the new
year, and some good news for a change, well in my opinion anyway. Pete Way's
website www.peteway.net has posted a message
saying that Michael Schenker has given up the rights to the Ufo name, which
means Ufo can now operate without Schenker. Now if you have been to Pete's site
you will also see that gigs have been posted in the USA and he will be joined
by Paul Chapman playing lead guitar. Well what do you think? could it be that
Pete and Tonka will join Phil Mogg in a new/old UFO? Dose Phil still need UFO
when his $ign of 4 project is doing such an
excellent job?
Can't Wait
23/12/02
Happy Christmas to one and all and have a happy
new year
19/11/02 Just got back from the marquee where I was lucky enough to see the $ign
of 4 perform tonight. What can I say except I was totally entertained and they
were well above my expectations, well above! This was the first time I had heard
the songs from Dancing with St Peter, and I would like to hear them a few times
more before I pass comment but get this,... too close to the sun, muddys gold,
Jerusalem from Chocolate box and UFO back catalogue numbers Mother Mary, Too
hot to handle, Mystery train, lights out and shoot shoot were all played. This
band is tight and look like a functional unit who enjoy playing together.
As you know
I havent been the biggest fan of Chocolate box, but the 3 numbers played live
come across a lot stronger and I will eat my words in this instance. The thing
that stood out for me was Jeff Kollman's guitar playing. This guy is good, infact
ill take it a stage further, hes really good. The solo's on the UFO songs were
superb, he didn't copy the runs note for note instead taking the essence and
putting his own stamp on them and I cant emphasize enough just how tight this
band are. Phil was on good form and looked like he had regained some zest for
singing again, must be nice to turn up to work and know your colleagues are
going to be there.
Anyway onto
the Legends of rock agian at Southend Tonight, concerts are just like busess
really none for ages and then they all come along at the same time.
17/11/02 Just got back from the Legends of Rock at the Bush, So just a quick review.
Theres something for everybody on this tour, if you like fret spanking then
your in for a treat, if you like classical music played on the guitar then your
luck is in, but for me the killer was Glen Hughes. The voice of rock? well im
not going to argue. 35 mins of classic Deep Purple and boy can he still sing.
First up was
Frank Marinio, (The man looks thirty years old how dose he do it)this was OK
but I like songs, ive never been much into long passages, dont bore us get to
the chorus has always been my thing. But a lot of people did enjoy his set so
what dose my opinion matter. (none).
Second up was Uli, he
chose the classical head tonight, played brilliantly as he always dose.
Third on the bill
was Glen Hughes,
just magic
Then Uli joined Jack Bruce for the
cream part of the evening. This followed the same formula as the Donnington
show but not nearly as long and drawn out. A short interlude and then it was
lets play together time. First up was Frank with Voodoo Chili, can this guy
play Hendrex or What? then uli joins him for All along the Watchtower. If Jimmy
was watching im sure he would have approved. Then a real gem jack Bruce sings
Eleanor Rigby (is that spelt right) Awsome!!!! Uli then apologies for Schenkers
absence, this was met with much mockery and insults, all deserved in my opinion.
But can I say its not Uli's fault that Schenker didn't turn up, and secondly
did they need him anyway? Then the last song of the night, the return of Glen
Hughes and his special cover version, if you dont want to know look away now......................................A
whiter shade of pale. Then they were gone.
5/11/02 Michael Schenker has pulled out of the Legends of Rock tour.
Also its criminal
that Ufo have not had one entry into the top 100 albums as viewed in Metal Hammer
and Classic Rock. Are all thier readers deaf, stupid or Slip Knott fans.
20/10/2002 Hi there everybody seems that the coming month is going to be a hive of
activity on the live front. First of all we have The Legends of Rock which is
now to feature Frank Marinio (you know the spirit of Hendrex lol) infact I can't
wait to see him and Uli on stage together, can you imagine it. " I had
his spirit first" "no you never I did" that should be an experience
no pun intended. Seriously I am really looking forward to this and in my opinion
is a far better show than the Monsters of rock circus which will also be doing
the rounds in November.
Also
touring in November are The $ign of 4. now I was hoping that I would get to
see Phil Mogg at the Southend showing of the Legends of Rock but he will be
in Lancs that night, and infact they tour simultaneously until the 21st of November,
so perhaps that might happen after that date somewhere. Lets keep our fingers
crossed anyway.
I
received a copy of the The Plots cd the other day which I found quite interesting,
I will get a review done at some stage but as a quickie I found it had a far
better sound than Amphetamine and I think the songs are of a higher standard.
There are also some really good guitar riffs. Pete still cant sing but you get
used to that.
Anyway,
anybody who is going to the $ign of 4'S gig at the Marquee on the 19th and the
Legends Southend gig on the 20th send me an email and perhaps we can discuss
all things UFO in the bar with a few lagers.

A NEW ARCHIVE RELEASE FROM PAUL CHAPMAN: Following his departure from Waysted
in 1987 and resident in Florida, Paul Chapman started to think about putting
together a band. Ghost, featuring ex-Persian Risk and current Krokus vocalist
Carl Sentence, was that band. These recordings have remained unreleased until
now…and what a surprise it is to finally hear them! Anybody partial to the music
made by bands like Tyketto, Burning Rain etc. will love this album. As Chapman
himself says: “This was music from the heart and Soul. I loved my band, and
so will you.” This is one of the finds of this or any other year! Available

as many territories as poss and I'll let you know, or you can also check up
in the "news" section of the site, for details. All the best to you and check
it! Danny Peyronel" www.dannypeyronel.com
"Forgot to mention that, apart from 9 brand new songs, I've done my own
versions of some of the songs I wrote for others, such as "Midnight at the Lost
and Found" (Meatloaf), "Live for a Lie" (Dave Gilmour) and UFO's "Highway Lady".
Talk to you soon, Danny

Got my hands on a copy of Regenerator Live
1982 today, so it dose exist. I will get around to putting a review on
the reviews page in the next couple of days, but i think most Ufo fans
will already love and know this show very well.
12/12/01 Not to much happening on the Ufo front at the moment?

This is from melodicrock.com COSMOSQUAD / GAALAAS
/ KOLLMAN / SPARKS UPDATE: Los
Angeles - Progressive metal/fusion instrumentalists Cosmosquad, featuring guitarist
Jeff Kollman (Mogg/Way, Edwin Dare) and famed rhythm section Shane Gaalaas/Barry
Sparks (Uli Jon Roth, MSG, Yngwie Malmsteen, Dokken), this week played a Halloween
gig at LA's Baked Potato in Hollywood - the latest in a series of highly successful
2-set one night stands at the venue. In other Cosmo news, bassist Barry Sparks
is currently holed up at a Los Angeles studios laying down bass tracks for the
upcoming Dokken album. Meanwhile, Drummer Shane Gaalaas is set to join Michael
Schenker and Marty Friedman (ex-Megadeth) in Phoenix for an electric instrumental
guitar album and will travel to Russia for 2 shows with 'The Voice Of Rock',

Phil Mogg. Produced and recorded by Kollman at
his Crumb Studios, the album features 11 songs, including a cover of Tom Waits'

I managed
to pick up a copy of the Misdemeanour tour DVD yesterday, as suspected there
are no extra tracks, but my copy did have the soundtrack on the other side
in CD format. The picture quality is fantastic but I'M sure a few extras
might have helped justify buying this again.
25/8/2001 August's Classic Rock
magazine has two articles which will interest, a where are they now article
on Paul Chapman and a Donnington piece.
12/8/2001 If you go to wendi's site
(ufoa2z.com) you can pick up a link to 3 soundbites from The Phil Mogg Bands
soon to be released album. What I've heard sounds good and I for one will be
looking forward to the release which now seems to be in the autumn.
5/8/2001 from melodic rock.com
A brand new Michael Schenker Group album is due. The title of the album will
be the very cheeky Beware Of Scorpions!

Back to the
grind! after the Donnington show, I've got some photo's which ill give a page
to in the next couple of days so keep an eye out. Ufo played us 5 songs: Midnight
Train, Let it roll, Rock Bottom, Lights out and Doctor Doctor. All songs
were performed with a duel lead guitar second guitar provided by Uli Jon Roth,
I was impressed with Uli's playing having lost track of him after the (Scorpions)
Taken by Force album. An announcement was made that a live recording of the
event will be made. Anyway ill put something together in the next couple of
days with a review of both days which were superb.
This from melodicrock.com
"In Japan, the Michael Schenker Group is the subject of a new re-release.
MSG's Budokan Live will get the revision treatment in a premium priced limited
edition pressing housed in a cardboard sleeve. The 15 track version of the original
release contains the song Tales Of Mystery and the late Cozy Powell's drum solo,
that was previous omitted. The release, through Toshiba EMI is due August 8".

June's Classic
Rock has a small piece from Pete Way, where he has indicated that last years
canceled shows may be rescheduled later this year, he has also told Classic
Rock that he is working on his second solo album working possibly with Paul
Chapman. Pete is also writing with Fast Eddie Clarke for a new Fastway album.
Way to go Pete!!!
14/5/2001
Well you
all must have heard the news (Dave's site if you haven't) that the 18th Annual
Rock and Blues, Custom Show and Bike Drags will be held at Castle Donnington
on the 22nd and 23rd June 2001. Special interest is that Uli Jon Roth will be
joined on stage by The Scorpions, Phil Mogg and another banjo player (lol) in
fact the list of bands is a lot better than some of the previous monsters of
rock shows staged there in the past, (yea my opinion) included Wishbone Ash,
Meatloaf tribute band,Hawkwind and Eddie and the Hotrods to name a few. Go and
have a look at the official web site for more information. http://www.rockandblues.uk.com
21/4/2001
Thanks for the info
Stuart.
Regarding your news item dated 17/4,
I was at the Newcastle gig in November 2000 and can recall Phil mentioning that
the band were due to appear on 'Later with Jools Holland'. I can remember at
the time a new series of the programme had just started and, therefore, watched
the next few weeks to see if the lads were on. I assumed by Phil's mention of
their appearance that it had recently been recorded prior to the start of the
tour, but I'm afraid they either did not make it on or I must have missed the
relevant programme. When Phil mentioned Jools Holland at the gig he stuck his
fingers down his throat, I assume indicating he did not think much of the host!!!.
Maybe this is why we have not seen them!!! Keep up the good work!!!
Yours Stuart Smith Whitley Bay
17/4/2001 This
may be totally false information and I apologize if it is but here goes anyway.
I recently picked up a copy of the 2000 Newcastle gig, after one of the songs
Phill was heard to say "This is something we pre recorded for the Jools
Holland show last week, Its called Venus" A new series has just started
in the UK and we can only hope that Phil wasn't messing around.
1/4/2001 This
is from melodicrock.com
"From the Michael Schenker news outlet Michael Schenker Records comes the
quite funny news that UFO are actually considering working out some further
live dates! Love to see that one happen! On a more believable front - a new
MSG record is being completed with Chris Logan on vocals, Jeff Martin on drums
and Rev Jones on bass. Schenker will also release a follow up to his acoustic
Thank You album - Thank You Part 2"
I also recieved
this by email
The UFO Tribute
is on Deadline CD's US and is called 'Only UFO can Rock Me'. (CLP 0979-2) It
is available from https://shop.keymailorder.com/index.html The Usual suspects
on the playing front, but not as predictable as you would expect and pretty
good. Worth supporting! Best Wishes William Hill hillww@hotmail.com

The March addition of Record Collector has an 8 page article
on the Ufer's. The piece is well written by Tim Jones and if you have
not had the pleasure of knowing the Ufo history this will give you a good
thumbnail of the bands lets say "colourful career" to date.
There are also 3 pages dedicated to the Ufo discography which highlight
Ufo's collectability, this is enhanced with some choice graphics of rare
picture covers, which I think were supplied by MGAB.
*Just as a footnote in the back of Record Collector in
the Sales and Auctions section, Someone has put an advert in for a standard
vinyl copy of Strangers in the Night at a price of £55. Now thats
a tad optimistic me thinks. Good luck my friend.
Elsewhere the March edition of Classic Rock is out, but with no Ufo news.
However there is a very fair review of Michael Scenkers new instrumental
CD Ms2000: Dreams and Expressions. "Which has saved me a job"
LOL.
9/2/2001
Found this on a web site called melodicrock.com
"Deadline Records / Cleaopatra are at it again. Two new tribute albums
are scheduled for February: Only UFO Can Rock Me
- an obvious UFO Tribute and Covered Dead Or Alive - A Bon Jovi tribute.
No details as yet to who is on these tributes, but if they are through Deadline,
no doubt all the usual suspects were rounded up".
There were rumor's of a Ufo tribute album some
time back, so perhaps it may be happening this time, just hope it dose not
contain Iron maidens awful cover of Doctor Doctor.
If you haven't been to melodicrock .com it might be a good
site to visit at some time. Every month they give you a number of full mp3
to download and at the moment they are offering a complete show by the band
Dare from the out of the silence tour. "Well recommended"
10/1/2001
Live 1979
Doctor Doctor
Some
good news for a change, UK viewers were treated to a showing of Doctor Doctor
on the Top of The Pops 2 show. I had only ever seen a clip of this performance
before so to get a full copy was nice!
My Girlfriend lent over
and said
"seem to be ok without Schenker" and from a non believer I think
that says it all.
7/1/2001
keep an eye out for some coming changes to the site, including the expulsion
of any MSG topics. Not too much has happened since the tour was called
off so at this point things are going to be short and sweet.
There was the Ufo article in Classic Rock which was obviously written
before the tours abrupt end (now that's what I call ironic Alanis) A great
quote from Pete "Going to see ufo is a bit like buying a lottery
ticket. Will the band turn up? will the guitarist smash his guitar and
walk off? will they finish the show? with us you never" well that's
true Pete but only when Schenker is involved.
Elsewhere Daves page has hinted at a Top of the pops 2 special (UK) which
may include a Ufo clip, I'm still waiting.
Also seems to be a dirth of ufo live
media coming from the last tour, I have a tape of the Manchester gig but
nothing else. I believe there is a Glasgow tape going around but have
not yet been offered a copy. So any info would be nice and a trade even
better.
Well lets hope for some good ufo news
this year and a happy new year to you all.
