A REnaiSsance LESbian?

A Joke?

Partly a joke... Although we have borrowed some of the iconography and "spirit" of Da Vinci, his Monalisa and the Renaissance in general, we are obviously no inventors, geniuses, scholars nor historians, but simply "curious" women with a "resles" mind. If you want to see how serious we take all this Renaissance/Da Vinci gibberish, click the following image link (and please be patient, because what follows next takes a while to load, but you can keep browsing the site while the opened page loads):

A Serious Idea?...

Only a little bit serious, because, come to think of it, why the hell would any woman want to be labeled a "renaissance lesbian"? The answer is easy: why not? Nowadays in this virtual (and real) world you have femmes, butches, stonefemmes, stonebutches (and who knows, maybe "stoned" ones, too), dykes, technodykes, lipstick lesbians, older and (supposedly) wiser lesbians, late bloomers, sappho wannabes, married but lesbians, academic queer women, wicca lesbians, closeted cases, het women trying to decide if they really are het, bicurious women, and all kinds of different categories that make the different alien categories of Star Trek seem like nothing, so why not entangle the web with yet another lesbian category and, in the process, have perhaps some fun exploring a few random elements of what is usually called "culture," making an attempt to "think" (?) for a change?

De Profundis: Defining the Undefinable...

Our definition of a "REnaiSsance LESbian" (abbreviated as "ResLes") includes (but is not limited to) the following characteristics: a woman, a lesbian (though lesbian-friendly women in general are also welcome), of any race or country, interested in art, science, culture/knowledge in general, (a bit or very) creative, "eclectic" (hence the "renaissance" association), who might be into HTML, but also into anthropology, chemistry and bunsen burners (though not for flaming, please!) or, on the physical side, maybe rollerblading or skydiving; someone whose mother tongue is not necessarily English, but who can manage to use it clearly enough to speak her mind up in this modern lingua franca, but who is also quite proud of her own mother tongue/cultural heritage, someone with a supportive heart and a sensitive soul, tolerant and multitrack-minded, who is conscious about the political importance of gay/lesbian activism, but who does not have a ghetto mentality (meaning "only" lesbian, or "only" feminist, or "only" politically correct), someone with enough brains not to make of her homosexual orientation her sole reason for living, and therefore, someone who does not consider that culture or knowledge are determined "only" by gender or sexual orientation or any other specific trait, who considers this (real and virtual) world a global, multicultural village and not the backyard of neither an imperialistic nor totalitarian nor fundamentalist government, etc. etc.
Does she sound too ideal?
Dreams have always been ideal...

By the way, never mind our amateur web page designs, since we are just mere aficionadas who sometimes like to spend their spare time trying out new things. And, once again, never mind our English, as we are from various countries/parts of the global village, so for some of us this is not our mother tongue.

Anyways, don´t let all this blah blah blah turn you off ;-)
